Space isn't remote at all. It's only an hour's drive away if your car could go upwards.

The North Jersey Astronomical Group will be having a virtual meeting and presentation on Wednesday June 10 at 8 pm.

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Charles Liu. His presentation will be about Galactic Transformations: The population of galaxies in the universe has changed a whole lot, from the first blobby assemblages 13 billion years ago to the grand design spirals and giant ellipticals of the present epoch. How has galaxy evolution transpired, and what does it tell us about the aging processes of the cosmos?  We'll pay special attention to galaxy collisions and the bursting and quenching of star formation that result - as well as the beautiful chaos they create.

Dr. Liu is an associate professor at the City University of New York’s College of Staten Island and an associate with the Hayden Planetarium. His research focuses on colliding galaxies, starburst galaxies, and star formation, as well as quasars and active galactic nuclei.

This presentation is free, open to the public and will be held online. It will be broadcast live on our NJAG YouTube Channel (please subscribe to the channel if you want to be notified when the broadcast begins). NJAG Members are encouraged to register via the link Zoom sent to the members.
