NJAG Monthly Meeting

TImpacthe guest speaker for the July NJAG meeting will be Dr. Jim Brown. His presentation will be "Beyond the K/T boundary: Impact events in Earth History." Dr. Brown will discuss the many other significant impact events before and after the famous K/T extinction in earth's history from a geological and paleontological perspective. Hazards to the Earth from these events will also be discussed.

 

 

Jim Brown is a registered geologist who earned his PhD. at City University of New York. He spent 20 years as an environmental consultant in New Jersey, but also in New Mexico, Michigan and Louisiana. Prior to his recent retirement, he spent more than 12 years as an adjunct professor teaching Paleobiology, Natural Disasters, Physical Geology and various types of general environmental courses at several state universities. He is a former President and Treasurer of the Geological Association of NJ, as well a former Vice-President and Treasurer of the New York Paleontological Society. He is also a member The Geological Association of America and The Paleontological Society.

Monthly meetings of the NJAG are free and open to the public - all are welcomed. Meetings usually feature a presentation about astronomy or space science by an amateur or professional astronomer.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month (except August); light refreshments will be served. Meeting will be held at Montclair State University in the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS). This is the relatively new building next to Richardson Hall. NJAG will meet in room 110 on the first floor (this is the room off on the left hand side at the back of the main lobby area). For directions, click on 'Directions' at top of the page.
