NJAG: Meeting - Cosmic Mashups
The July meeting of the North Jersey Astronomical Group will take place at the County College of Morris on Tuesday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m. The club will be visiting the Longo Planetarium for a presentation by CCM's astronomer Kevin Conod. This will feature a planetarium show "Cosmic Mashups: Gravity, Galaxies and Supermassive Black Holes." Supermassive black holes are found in most galaxies and we are beginning to understand how the merging of galaxies affects galactic centers. Scientists are uncovering how galaxy collisions, and the subsequent merging of galaxies, activates galactic centres to produce these monstrous black holes. Join Dr. Julie Comerford and Dr. Becky Nevin, as they share current research from the Sloan Digistal Sky survey telescope about the evolution of galaxies.
This meeting will take place at the Longo Planetarium at the County College of Morris, 214 Center Grove Rd., Randolph, NJ.
