Having the quotes on all pages I think might be too distracting. You might have them only on one page or have them display at the bottom of pages instead of the top.

Like the idea.. give the user the option of adding a quote, (hopefully on topic) but simple humor wor wit would add some flavor and humaness to a dry scientific subject.... helps to show theres a human side to science. (well roundedness)
