Mercury Transit Watch
NJAG and the staff of the Newark Museum's Dreyfuss Planetarium will have solar telescopes set up at Eagle Rock Reservation on Monday, May 9 for the rare transit of Mercury.
A transit occurs when a planet passes in between the Earth & Sun and is visible on the disk of the Sun. This Mercury transit starts at 7:12 am. Due to the small size of Mercury, a solar telescope will be needed to view the event.
Weather permitting, solar telescopes will be set up at Eagle Rock Reservation near the 9/11 memorial for the public to safely view the event. For directions use 1 Crest Drive West Orange, NJ. This is a free event. If the event needs to be cancelled due to the weather, a message will be left on the planetarium's hotline at 973-596-6529.
