"When beggars die, there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes."

The Great Non-Eclipse of August 2

Note there is no eclipse on August 2! There’s been a lot of chatter recently on social media about the sky going dark for 6 minutes – a “blackout” predicted by NASA. Not so – we’ve already passed new moon on July 24 and so a solar eclipse on August 2, 2025 is impossible. Very likely this is a confusion with a big solar eclipse coming up on Aug 2, 2027. That eclipse will not be visible in North America, but folks in parts of Europe, Africa, India and Southeast Asia will get a nice view.
